London, UK (7th July 2008): Congratulations to Barry Matthews, a Director at award winning global outsourcing and shared services advisory firm Alsbridge plc, who took 37th place in the 2008 TransPortugal Garmin race last month. Matthews covered 1001 kilometers of punishing terrain in only 71 hours, 44 minutes and 58 seconds.
The TransPortugal Garmin is a multi-stage in-line race composed of 8 stages crossing Portugal from North to South, starting in the city of Bragança, and finishing in Sagres in the Algarve, the most south-west point of Europe. The route mostly follows the border with Spain and is more than 95% off-road trails composed of forest trails, gravel double tracks and singletrails over cliffs.
Last July, Matthews came within the final 10 in The Daily Telegraphs search for Britain’s Fittest Director. A few months later he won the runner-up award for Best Partner/Director of theYear at the MCA Consultants of the Year Awards. This award recognised his outstanding contribution in developing Alsbridge plc’s IT Outsourcing advisory practice as well as managing multiple client engagements.
He comments: “I find setting challenges both professionally and personally to be a great way of measuring progress and success. I’m a great advocate of a healthy body, healthy mind and find that the time I spend on physical training provides me with a chance to relax, reflect on the working day and plan for the day ahead, as well as giving me more energy with which to tackle the challenges of building a successful consulting practice.”
Matthews recently gave a key note speech to a corporate audience of financial services professionals on the many benefits to business life of completing sporting challenges. He is currently leading a number of business transformation projects for Alsbridge’s public and private sector clients as well as training for a series of 2 day adventure races later in the year.
